Depression is complex. Depression is a disease that can linger and progress for months and years without detection. Researches know that depression will afflict 15 million people in the USA annually. 2/3 of these people, according to estimates, won’t seek treatment. Those with the disease don’t even know it in many cases. It is normal in this day in age to fall prey to the stress that rules our lives. The road blocks in life have become more severe. Many people live pay check to pay check. The recent economic crises has created even more pressure to obtain and hold a job. Stress leads to depression.
There are a lot of types of depression. Many of the labels are similar in meaning. There is mental depression, medical depression, clinical depression and manic depression. Severe depression refers to the most advanced form of the illness. Depression is brought on by many associating factors. One of these is simple biology, brain chemistry issues. DNA also carries depression. Those with family histories of depression are at risk.
Common factors can lead to different types of depression. Substance abuse often leads to depression. Rather it is alcohol or drug abuse, both has shown evidence to depression. The death of a family member can increase the chance for depression. History hasn’t been kind to mental depression. Before being classified as a disease it was thought to be a defect in character. There was very little treatment offered. Every stage of depression has its ill affects. That’s why early detection is vital to treatment.
Once the disease has progressed to severe depression the illness must be treated. At this stage suicide is often the result. The calls for assistance weren’t answered and now the chance to solve the problem is fading. Treatment is typically ‘talk therapy’ and anti-depressants. Support groups can also help. There are also natural herbs you can use to treat the disease. There are options available to those who suffer from all types of depression.
